Can You Learn How To Sing High Notes With A Low Voice??🎤

pro singing tips Mar 16, 2025

Do you really need to be born with a high voice if you want to sing high songs?

As you can hear by my voice, I don't have a naturally high voice.

And if I kind of speak a little bit more, you can kind of hear that my voice is quite low naturally, right? Yet, I've been able to train my voice and develop it to sing crazy high songs.

When I first started singing, my highest note was F. The very first note in a song, I couldn't even sing. When I say my highest note was F, I don't mean I could like sing up there. It was like I had to yell up and I could just touch it for one second.

I know what it's like to be born with a voice that doesn't have talent, right? A voice that's just kind of low, and every song feels like it's too high. Every song feels like it's too high. You put on the radio, and you want to sing along, and it's just like, "Oh, it's too high." The range I can sing in is just ridiculously small, and it's really frustrating because it's like…

A lot of people say things like, "You know, range isn't the only thing that matters." Well, it kind of is when that's your main limiting factor as an artist. For example, you might... Yeah, I mean, there's other important things with singing. But if your main limiting factor is range, it's just really frustrating because it just keeps coming up. You just want to improvise and sing and express yourself, and you're like, "Oh, it's too high. It's too high. It's too high. It's too high."

So, you have to put down songs an octave down, and you're singing everything just here... and it's just one part of your voice, right? So, we want the ability to just move freely through our voices like all the great singers do.

There's this misconception that it's like, "Oh, well, you need to just have it. You're right, you need to be born with it." And it really isn't true. Now, it does make it easier if you are born naturally with a higher voice. It does make it easier because then you're starting off in a range like your comfortable range is starting higher, which means you have less work to increase that.

But the short answer is yes, anybody can expand their vocal range. And yes, even lower voices, you can totally learn how to sing those high songs. I mean, the original keys and everything. It's a lot more work though.

But is it worth it? 100%. Because there might be songs you want to sing, or they might just be like... you want to basically have the full capabilities of your voice, right? You want to be like, "Hey, I want to sing this song I'm making. I need to hit the note in this kind of way," and you just want to be able to do that without feeling like your voice is limiting you.

So, it's absolutely a noble goal to go towards. To basically unlock your voice and grow your voice in a way where you can do things with it, where it's not blocking you. Rather, it's actually facilitating your vision, as opposed to it being the limitator of your vision. (Is "limitator" even a word?)

But I think you get what I'm trying to say, right? So yes, the answer is yes.
